BotCon 2000 Fort Wayne, Indiana!
BotCon 2000. Fort Wayne, Indiana. July 28-30, 2000.
- Friday night: Exclusive Dinner (limit 300, cost $70, exclusive plate and comic (alternate cover)), Video Rooms open
- Saturday: Dealer Rooms, Panels, Autographs, Transformers: The Movie
- Sunday: Dealer Rooms, Panels, Autographs
It was a great convention overall.
The GOOD:
- The voice actors really were a hoot and the organization was a bit better
- The facilities were nice and the hotels were great and nearby
- Even if you didn't want the fast food close by, there was a great BBQ cookoff going on all weekend (YUM)
- Car Robots and Beast Machine Cheetors were going like wild fire. They're great toys, go get 'em!
- Transformers: The Movie
- 24-hour Video Rooms with Japanese episodes including some Car Robots!
The BAD:
- Hasbro really didn't have anything to say
- The airlines were a nightmare! UNITED really screwed up both arriving and departing
- Fort Wayne isn't the easiest place to get to from an airport, ticket prices and flight difficulties underscore this
- Dealer prices were pretty steep
The UGLY:
- Lame-brain questions during panels
- Outright slams on those who help create Beast Machines (show, toys, et al)
If I were to liken my BotCon 2000 experience to a book. I would describe it as a
decent read with some really good chapters and weaker ones of course. But cover
to cover, it was worth your time.
However, the bookends (the UNITED flights) surround the experience in a negative context.
If you were fortunate enough to be able to drive some 12 hours, you took less time than
it took me to get there. So if you had a good ride/drive out, you were treated to a
great show!
