Takara delivers a great new line heralding the return of the original Transformer concept: Robots that disguise themselves as vehicles! Transformers: Car Robots features the "Cybertrons" (Japanese Autobots) against the Destrongers -- probably a "stronger" version of the Destrons (Japanese Decepticons).

The Cybertrons bear chrome-embossed Autobot sigils!
The Destrongers possess a purple Predicon Spark crystal.

Transformers: Car Robots uses a vehicle VS. beast theme reverse of the Japanese Beast Wars 2 and the American Beast Machines.

This first wave of Cybertrons includes a fantastic new fire engine "Fire Convoy", three new DELUXE sized cars, and recolors of the Transformer: Generation 2 "Go-Bots". To be released soon is an original gestalt, called JRX, is made of three bullet trains. The first wave of Destrongers includes "Gigatron" a way-cool six-changer and four re-colored Beast Wars: Transmetal IIs (not released in the Japanese Beast Wars: Metals line-up). A nice mix of re-issues and originals. For the Japanese, perhaps only the Go-Bots are re-issues there.

So far, I have Gigatron and Mach Alert. I really love both. I will be getting more for sure!
Gigatron is really best in robot mode. I like the dragon mode and "Munster"-jet mode. The "hand mode" reall grabs me (sorry, had to). In some Japanese Sci-Fi series, they have had flying hands as adversaries to giant heroes. I do remember a Marvel Shogun Warriors comic that had a monster that was a green hand with each finger tip being a dragon head.

Mach Alert is very well designed. His vehicle is one of my favorites, a Lamborgini Diablo. His scissor wing doors open similar to the actual door, he has the double dualie exhausts, and he has reclined bucket seats! In robot mode, you get a well proportioned Deluxe-sized robot. The Autobot logo is prominently stamped on his engine-chest. He has the super-poseability of any Beast Wars toy. The hip shields get in the way but the back junk folds up nicely. I love the shoulder armor detail. He's got a neat helmet too. The face in the CGI box art almost looks like he's sticking his tongue out at you but the toy's face doesn't look like this.
Could Mach Alert be (Beast Wars: Neo) Break's older brother? Check out my reasons why I think so. 26-Apr-2000
